How We Got Our Name
​
In Hmong culture, there is a saying: “tsis txhob ua maum tshis coj ntug,” which loosely translates to “don’t be a female alpha goat.” The female alpha goat—often seen as the ring leader—is known for her sociability, liveliness, independence, and curiosity.

Historically, this phrase has been used in a derogatory way to discourage women from stepping outside traditional roles, reinforcing expectations that confined them to domestic spaces. We choose to redefine that narrative.

At Purple GOATS, we proudly embody the very qualities the saying once criticized. We embrace the strength, resilience, and leadership of the alpha female goat—bold, capable, and unafraid to challenge norms. We stand confidently in who we are and aim to inspire other women to do the same.

The color purple represents dignity, strength, and pride, and has long been associated with movements for women’s rights and gender equality.
